Monitoring
From Irides’ Network Operations Center (NOC) we provide 24
x 7 monitoring using ScienceLogic's EM7 suite of comprehensive
infrastructure management tools.
Our monitoring is designed to provide a reliable and consistent service providing advanced notification of problems and a detailed view of network operation as incidents develop. We monitor across a broad range of services from individual hardware components in a server to high level functions such as overall network traffic supported by a web server cluster to round trip email times for an Exchange server.
Irides' customers are able to track all the same information available to the NOC through our Customer Portal.
Standard Monitoring
Irides provides standard service monitoring that ensures that our engineers are aware of issues before they impact system availability. Typical monitoring includes:
- Port availability including http/s, pop, imap, ftp and other major ports.
- Server performance including key metrics such as CPU load, bandwidth usage and memory usage
- File system monitoring including disk space and file I/O
- Monitoring of state of critical services (Windows) and processes
- Remote Administration Monitor – Continuously verifies that the remote administrative services (Windows Terminal Services, PPTP/RAS, SecureShell) are available and accepting connections.
All monitored information is integrated with our event notification. Both low and high values of any tracked metric can trigger warning messages via email or SMS. Custom notification is an option available to all customers.
Exchange and Blackberry Enterprise Server Monitoring
Email is has become an essential utility for business. Irides activity manages the servers and the email systems that they support to ensure the highest availability possible. We monitor at three levels:
- the server level (CPU usage, memory usage, hardware health, operating temperature and hundreds of other data points)
- the email application (user connections, message queue length, active processes / services)
- end user experience (round trip email times, message delivery,
webmail availability)
Microsoft Exchange integrated with Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) is fully monitored through the BES system interfaces (API). Monitoring includes such items as:
- The health of the connection between Exchange and BES
- The number of messages delivered per minute
- Message queue length (yet to be delivered messages)
- License usage

Web Server Monitoring
- Web site availability both http and https
- Web content verification
- URL monitoring
- Support functions such as ftp and rdp

Microsoft SQL Database Servers
- Multi-platform support including MySQL, MS SQL, Sybase, Oracle and PostgreSQL
- Key performance parameters can be monitored application/database transactions or percentage of table space available
- Data is available in table or graph form showing trends
of arbitrary periods
